What are the different styles of German Beer?
Lager – Lager is a generic term for a beer fermented and conditioned at cooler temperatures, most often with a bottom-fermenting yeast. This is basis of all styles served at Richmond Oktoberfest.
Dunkel – Dark lager, slightly sweet & smooth.
Hefeweizen – Pale, “white” lager made from malted wheat. Slightly sweet.
Pilsner – Light golden lager that is a little more bitter or balanced depending on your taste buds. There are many takes on Pislners and your favorite may not be German.
Oktoberfest (Märzen) – Medium, full bodied lager, slightly sweet or malt forward. Reportedly, today’s version is very different from the original Märzen.
WIkipedia has a comprehensive list of beer styles and does a great job with major details. It is a great place to learn about all styles of beer in depth.
